Birth certificate allows rights and access to greater services

The birth certificate is a document that provides identity to Mexicans, because that is how their rights and obligations established in the Constitution are recognized, the Secretary of the Interior, Miguel Ángel Osorio Chong, affirmed here today.
During the signing of the Agreement to Guarantee the Right to Identity of the Indigenous Population, between the Ministry of the Interior and the National Commission for the Development of Indigenous Peoples (CDI), he stressed that with this document, the population in general, and in In particular, those who speak a language will have access to productive programs and projects, as well as attend school or receive a pension, in the case of older adults.
Accompanied by the state governor, Manuel Velasco Coello, and by the general director of the CDI, Nuvia Mayorga Delgado, Secretary Osorio Chong assured that the Government of the Republic, in coordination with local governments, is working to grant birth certificates four million people, mainly indigenous people.
For this, he explained, 50 modules will be installed in different regions where trained personnel who will speak a dialect will carry out this procedure for free.
In the presence of some five thousand indigenous people from the states of Baja California, Campeche, Chiapas, Chihuahua, State of Mexico, Guerrero, Hidalgo, Jalisco, Michoacán, Oaxaca, San Luis Potosí, Sonora, Tabasco, Veracruz and Yucatán, the head of This dependency stressed that this agreement means a great step for Mexico, because one cannot speak of rights or the possibility of having access to services if one does not have a birth certificate.
Now, he added, the indigenous communities are part of the history that is being built, the unity and the work that all Mexicans do, will allow these actions to benefit us all.
During the event, in which birth certificates were also symbolically delivered to women and men, Secretary Osorio Chong added that the fact that all the inhabitants of the country have a document that identifies them as Mexicans represents a foundation for continue working for the benefit of the population.
On his occasion, Governor Velasco Coello considered that this collaboration agreement endorses the firm commitment of President Enrique Peña Nieto to comprehensively serve the indigenous peoples of the country.
He assured that with the support of the Government of the Republic, the full development of Mexico is achieved and, in particular, of the native communities, promoting actions to reduce poverty and marginalization, recognizing their rights, freedoms and granting them an identity.
The head of the CDI, Nuvia Mayorga Delgado, pointed out that a series of actions will be carried out so that this population has nearby services in their language for the ordinary and extemporaneous registration of births, issuance of civil registration certificates, regularization of civil registry records and the issuance of the Unique Population Registry Code.
We want, he indicated, to make the indigenous population visible by having women and men a name that gives them an identity and identifies us as what we are, a multicultural nation that has a course and a destiny.
On behalf of the beneficiary indigenous community, Pilar Valencia Murillo, expressed her gratitude for having her birth certificate, because she assured that now she can be part of the Seguro Popular program and carry out procedures of any kind.
The Collaboration Agreement was signed by the Secretary of the Interior and by the head of the National Commission for the Development of Indigenous Peoples, and the Governor of Chiapas as witness of honor.
