Toward addiction to gambling or to be addicted to Diablo

When you buy legendary crests, rememb er that you're not buying a single roll of dice like you would when buying the FIFA Ultimate Team card pack such as Diablo IV Gold. You are purchasing a chance to roll the dice to tap into the game engine to tweak the drop rates (slightly) to your advantage. Gambling mechanics that are addictive aren't distinct from the addictive gameplay mechanics, but instead are tied directly into the combat system and loot drops within the game. Diablo is scarily well-positioned for this. As my coworker Maddy Myers pointed out, these games with a lot of loot focus have always had a slot-machine quality and that's what Diablo Immortal's business strategy makes an actual.
Blizzard has repeatedly tried to stress that Immortal's monetization can safely be ignored until the game's end It's true, and claims that the majority of players enjoy the game without spending a dime, which is possible. But it's a bit naive to claim that the real pleasure of Diablo games resides in playing through the story instead of maxing out your character. It's also insincere to say that these games have always been designed to create an eagerness to hit the power threshold in their players. If you have a tendency toward addiction to gambling or to be addicted to Diablo's item game or, even worse, both -- the infamous"crest" system is extremely exploitative and, in the worst case, very destructive.
For all other players it's just a matter of making Diablo more difficult to play.
We've been here before or in a similar situation. When Diablo 3 first came out in 2012 an auction house that was real money where players could purchase and sell their items. In theory, the auction house was in place to prevent cheating and scamming that beset item trading during Diablo 2. But in order to steer players toward Auction House, Blizzard decreased the rate at which loot drops were made in the game to such an amount that equipping your character was a tedious task and the game was uninteresting to play. The auction house that was a snobbery was taken down and drop rate were increased in 2014, Diablo 3 instantly became more fun, even before the improvements of the Reaper of Souls expansion lifted the game to a classic level cheap Diablo 4 Gold.
