India’s Water Conundrum Beyond the Tipping Point?

For the past 20 years, India has been experiencing a severe water crisis. As urban and industrial growth picks up speed, per capita availability has decreased to around 1,400 cubic metres annually and will continue to do so. The issues are well-known for enabling India, but they exist in separate administrative and thematic contexts.

Will India’s problems with water get worse? Most research appears to support this. According to some predictions, India’s water supply will fall short of demand by almost 100% by the year 2030. There are many programmes supported by the federal, state, and local governments that aim to increase water supply, encourage water conservation, recharge groundwater, restore water bodies, or invest in rainwater harvesting. They all overlook one crucial aspect: effectiveness.
