In patch 7.2 In patch 7.2. the Mage Tower was closed due to WoW's WoTLK Gold Battle for Azeroth expansion, effectively removing all its distinctive benefits. This feature will be reintroduced to the game as part of a rotating Legion timewalking event every week in which players will be able to queue up for the dungeons of the Legion expansion and earn rewards for current-level players.
The Mage Tower will function the same similar to how it was when it came out, participants being offered a variety of challenging solo scenarios that are based on their level and specializations to face. Participants will be able to try this Mage Tower challenge repeatedly for the length of the event's duration.
Although the feature will feature similar challenges to Legion but it will also come with new rewards. In a post on the forum, Blizzard explained that players who pushed themselves to earn these exclusive rewards prior to when the tower closed in Legion were likely to see their achievements diminished if the tower were to give those rewards once more. Instead this time, the Mage Tower will now reward with a new color of Legion armor, which is unique to buy WoTLK Gold each class. For those who have completed all seven of the Mage Tower's challenges over several characters will be awarded with a distinctive, account-wide flying mount from the Soaring Spelltome.
